Launched in November 2000, IIDM publishes business resources designed for the time-poor business executive, owner or manager who seeks to enhance their leadership skills and improve the performance of their business. IIDM also offers the opportunity to engage in continuous professional development (CPD), using formal or informal mediums. IIDM is the recognised CPD medium for The CEO Institute's Certified CEO designation (via the Academic pathway).

The CEO Institute was founded by Ken Gunn, Chairman & CEO, in 1992, as a membership organisation for Chief Executives and in 2011 became the world’s first global certification body for CEOs. The CEO Institute was established to help business leaders connect with their peers and share their learnings with each other. Having helped over 5000 business leaders achieve greater business success, they are Australia’s leading executive membership organisation for CEOs, senior executives and managers. In 2013, The CEO Institute became the first Australian business to partner with UNESCO in support of the “Malala Fund for Girls' Right to Education” echoing the Institute's values of professional development and personal growth. Building on its success in Australia, in 2014, The CEO Institute began offering its programs globally.
Its flagship program, The CEO Syndicate, is an exclusive peer support network for CEOs and business leaders that offers experiential learning and mutual group mentoring to its members - many of whom have been with us for well over 10 years. The Future CEO Program is a certification course designed by the business leaders of today for the business leaders of tomorrow. The first Future CEO meeting was held in Melbourne in May 2012. It is a proven path to success that equips participants with the knowledge, skills and contacts needed to take over senior leadership roles. The Future CEO Program is available face to face and virtually.
In 2021, The CEO Institute launched the Certified Manager Program a high impact virtual certification program designed for Managers covering the skills and business knowledge required to successfully navigate the challenges faced in today’s workplace.
